Hiya, Colin! Citronella in the Sierra presents three problems: One, transporting it so it doesn't break. Two, I've not seen it work on Sierra skeeters. Three, it's summer, so fire danger is extremely high, so matches and the pine duff don't match well. :-( It sucks that the worst stuff for you works the best...

Awesome stuff! Just got myself the iPhone 4 as well. Excited to get to use it as a field cam!

As for the mosquitos, perhaps bring some citronella incense sticks with you? Would make for some interesting logistics in mounting them on your person / gear if you are mobile, but it might work.

John, that's a great question. I noticed that the Mosquitos loved by fur windscreen, and stopped bothering it when I removed it. I was shocked to find they were so visually attracted to something, as opposed to scent. Anyway, we didn't discuss this challenge that much. Permethrin is the only thing I'd spray on a furry windscreen, maybe inside rather than out, but it'd probably keep them from landing, not from swarming. Maybe worth some field testing! (anyone else with ideas, chime in!)

man, the mosquitoes LOVE my furry windscreens. Did anybody at the workshop have any good advice about how to thwart them away? I'm a little reluctant to spray repellant on my fur covers.

Very cool Nathan! I'm glad you decided to go, I've always wanted to see inside one of those workshops. That iphone makes for a decent field video camera. Looking forward to the sounds.
